Guidance for swelling, bruising, cold packs, activity, massage limits, and urgent vascular warning signs after dermal filler.

- Use these instructions as general guidance only. If your surgeon or clinic team gave you different instructions, follow the clinic instructions.
- Keep your follow-up appointment even if you feel well. Early review helps the clinic notice small issues before they become larger problems.
What is usually normal
- Mild swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, itching, or small uneven areas can happen for a few days.
- Lips and tear trough areas can swell more than other areas. Swelling often changes from morning to evening.
First days care
- Use a wrapped cold pack for short intervals if recommended. Do not place ice directly on the skin.
- Avoid pressing, rubbing, sleeping directly on the treated area, or massaging unless your injector specifically tells you to.
- Avoid dental work, facials, intense heat, and heavy exercise during the early window recommended by your injector.
Activity and skin care
- Keep activity light on the treatment day if swelling or bruising is noticeable.
- Use gentle cleansing and simple skin care. Avoid strong exfoliants or active products on the treated area until cleared.
Call urgently or seek emergency care
- Severe pain, skin blanching, grey or dusky discoloration, mottled skin, or increasing pain after filler can signal a blood-flow problem.
- Any vision change, severe headache, eye pain, facial weakness, confusion, or trouble speaking after filler is an emergency.
- Call for fever, spreading redness, pus, severe swelling, hives, or lip or throat swelling.
Emergency signs
- Seek emergency care now for chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, severe uncontrolled bleeding, or a fast irregular heartbeat.
- Seek urgent care for new one-sided calf swelling, warmth, redness, or cramping, especially after body or breast surgery.
- After eye surgery or facial fillers, sudden vision change, severe eye pain, or stroke-like symptoms should be treated as an emergency.
