Lower Blepharoplasty Recovery

Guidance for under-eye swelling, cold compresses, eyelid support, eye comfort, activity, and urgent lower-eyelid warning signs.

Start here

  • Use these instructions as general guidance only. If your surgeon or clinic team gave you different instructions, follow the clinic instructions.
  • Keep your follow-up appointment even if you feel well. Early review helps the clinic notice small issues before they become larger problems.

What is usually normal

  • Swelling and bruising under the eyes can look more dramatic than the discomfort feels, especially during the first few days.
  • Temporary tearing, dryness, mild blur from ointment, and tightness of the lower eyelid can happen early.

Eye comfort and swelling care

  • Use cold compresses, drops, ointment, and any taping or support exactly as the clinic instructed.
  • Keep your head elevated. Avoid sleeping on your face or side if it puts pressure on the lower eyelids.
  • Do not pull down on the lower lid, rub the eyes, or test the eyelid position in the mirror repeatedly.

Incision care

  • Clean only as directed and avoid makeup, creams, lash treatments, and contact lenses until cleared.
  • If you were given tape or support for the lower eyelid, do not remove or adjust it unless the clinic tells you to.

Activity

  • Keep early activity calm. Avoid bending, heavy lifting, hard exercise, swimming, dusty air, and anything that dries the eyes.
  • Do not drive until you are off strong pain medicine and your vision is clear enough to drive safely.

Call the clinic urgently

  • Sudden vision change, severe eye pain, increasing pressure, new double vision, or a pupil that looks different needs immediate attention.
  • Call if the lower eyelid pulls away from the eye, the eye will not close, or dryness and burning are worsening despite drops.
  • Call for fever, pus, spreading redness, bleeding that does not slow, or swelling that becomes very tight on one side.

Emergency signs

  • Seek emergency care now for chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, severe uncontrolled bleeding, or a fast irregular heartbeat.
  • Seek urgent care for new one-sided calf swelling, warmth, redness, or cramping, especially after body or breast surgery.
  • After eye surgery or facial fillers, sudden vision change, severe eye pain, or stroke-like symptoms should be treated as an emergency.
